In a fertile valley crossed by the Marchán river, we find the city of Alhama of Granada. The Muslims were the ones who named it replacing the previous one of Artigi. It’s a walled city of fundamental importance, being the fall into the hands of the Catholic Kings a transcendental fact that culminated ten years after with the taking of Granada, in 1492. Alhama is the center of a region situated in an ample valley closed to the west by the mountain range of Loja and to the south by the mountain range of Tejeda and Almijara; it’s surrounded by the pool of Los Berrmejales to the east and by the north you find the A-92 highroad to Granada. Notice the contrast between the green of the North face of Tejeda and Almijara and the boxed precipices like the one of the Presillejos, Valdeinfiernos or the Solana of the Espartal; its top reaches 2.069 meters in the Rope, a place that we have predicted to visit and from where we will be able to enjoy the Mediterranean coast visually, from Almeria to Gibraltar. Let’s point at the main fauna: the Hispanic goat, abundant in these mountainous areas, mainly in Tejeda and Almijara. |
1º DAy:
Reception in Seville. Transfer to Alhama of Granada. Lodging.
Route: Precipice of Alhama-Camino of Robledal-Camino of Huertas-Precipice of Alhama. The Alhama river has excavated an enormous precipice throughout the years, there is a narrow road between endemic trees and poplars. Next to the mountain range, the cortijos (houses of labour and farms) of Robledal Bajo, Medio and Alto that are crossed by a good track. The strip of the Orchards, next to the Alhama river, with a veriety of orchards and woods.

2º DAy:
Route: Path of Resinera-Valle of the river Cacín-Cortijo Ubares - Pinares del Arroyo - Tejadillas Oscuras-La Resinera.
A progressive stage, that situates us in the hill of Ubares, 1400 ms, crossing the high valley of the Cacín river. A long descent between pine groves brings us back us to the valley of the Cacín.

3º DAy:
Route: Jayena-Pinar of the precipice of Orihuela-Cortijo of the Meadow-highway of Cabra-Cº Almijara-Jayena.
From the town of Jayena, we will cross the fertile valley of the Turillas, walking later up the pinewoods of the precipice of Orihuela. Magnificent views of the mountain range of the Means and Játar from the Plains of the Especiero. The pine groves of the mountain range of Almijara will join us until the Goat road, where the landscape changes radically, once we passed the flats of the Meadows. The dryness of the surroundings of the Verde river and its tributary and the ascent to the Cº of the Almijara, introduces us into Jayena by the zone of the Llanos.

4º DAy:
Route: Territories of Alhama-Mountain range of Loja.
To the West of Alhama of Granada, fertile country extended where different grammineaes are cultivated. More to the west, the mountain range of Loja, to which we will get through paths that spread along a eroded rock landscape.

5º DÍA:
Route: Highway to Santa Cruz of Comercio and way to the Cº de Rodero.
A short route will take us to the town of Santa Cruz of Comercio, from where we will return to Alhama through the road of the Cº Rodero, next to the bath and the precipice of the Alhama river. We will go along a small track and get across to the other side of the precipice with superb views of Alhama, ending our journey in the Ventorro of the Dove. - Distance: 20 kms.
