flat lands And The SALT MARSH (DoÑana)

Route in bicycle through the province of Seville and Huelva, in the western part of Andalucia

Route: 8 days

The "Flat Lands" as its name indicates is an ample and flat extension, whose origins are united to the mouth of the Guadalquivir river.

From Seville, by the agricultural region of the Aljarafe, of Arab origin and continuing by the proximity of the salt marshes of Doñana, we will pedal by forgotten gravel and asphalted roadways, we will enjoy the landscape and the tranquility of inner ANDALUSIA.

Our trip will take us to the beaches next to the Boundary of Doñana and mouth of the rivers Odiel and Tinto.

1º Day: Sevilla . Reception. Transfer to Hotel. Visit the Cathedral and the Alcázar.

2º Day:

Route: Sevilla-Benacazón

Starting our journey from Seville, we will ride by the upper seville region through the Aljarafe. Small white towns that live on the olive and the grapevine. Narrow and calm highways in a level landscape.

Route: Benacazón-El Rocío

By Villamanrique de la Condesa, we approached the salt marshes of Doñana. Forests of pines and eucalyptuses, olive, cereal and grapevine.

Easy ride to a flat level region, that takes us to the village of the El Rocio, where the largest and most popular romería (pilgrimage) of Spain is celebrated every year.

El Rocío: As the legend is told, in this village a virgin appeared to a shepherd. A great sanctuary has been built in the middle of the salt marsh, and today surrounded by endless number of houses, forming a town with sand streets. During the week of the romeria (pilgrimage), it congregates more than a million people coming from all parts of Spain.

Route: El Rocío-Mazagón:

Pedaling between eucalyptus and pine trees, by a zone very depopulated, we will approach the Atlantic Ocean and the town of Mazagón.
Long white and fine sand beaches.

Route: Mazagón. Visit to the Monasterio de la Rábida. Free day.

We will visit the Mudéjar Monastery of la Rábida, declared National Monument. Here Columbus arrived when nobody believed in its route to Cipango (Japan). The superior Juan Perez listened to and intervenes for Columbus before the Catholic queen Isabel.

In its proximity is the port of "Palos", where Columbus departed in his first journey in 1492.

6º Day:

Route: Mazagón-La Palma del Condado

Palos de la Frontera and Moguer, are towns that conserve in their memory the discovery of America. Their fields destined, from not long ago, to the agriculture of strawberry.

Niebla. During the Muslim period Niebla was head of one of the 26 controls in which Al-andalus was then divided. It emphasizes the Arab wall, with three kilometers of perimeter, 5 doors and 46 towers. The church of Santa Maria de Granada and the ruins of San Martín, also stand out.

La Palma del Condado. In this town we will finalize the today journey. Of great value are the baroque churches of San Juan Baptist and those of "Los Carmelitas". The street and and its main Plaza, reunite a series of houses of great architectural beauty.

7º Day:

Route: La Palma del Condado- Sanlúcar la Mayor - Transfer to Sevilla.

This day we will cross the countryside. Ample zones of cereal culture and beautiful white towns in slopes of small hills.

We will cross the river Guadiamar continuing to Sanlúcar La Mayor, entrance to El Aljarafe.

Sanlúcar la Mayor: With more than 10.000 inhabitants, it conserves a harmonious urban town center, in which they emphasize three parishes of mudéjar. The one of San Pedro, is located alongside the Arab wall. The one of San Eustaquio, located at the highest level of the town and also the church of Santa Maria, with gothic architecture, separating three ships by horseshoe arches that support a wood ceiling.

•  Geography: Low plains and hills

8º Day: Transfer to the Airport
